Drums

My durm Pearl drum kit on 07/03/2003

Drums is another of my hobbies which I enjoy. My drum kit (pictured above) is a Pearl 'Forum Series' and i've owned it for just over a year. Since I bought it new i've added a 16" (DX) crash cymbal mounted on a straight stand, an 8" (Stagg) Splash Medium cymbal mounted on a boom arm which is attached to the ride cymbol stand (saving me floor space) a 12" (Paste) splash on a boom stand as well as the 18" Pearl Cymbol which comes with the kit. All of my kit & hardware comes from Modern Music in Basingstoke. My advice on buying cymbols, is don't go for the best make of cymbol, choose the sort of sound you want (Which will depend on what you play, ie. Rock, Pop, Jazz etc.) Try out the different sounds and then buy - ignor the make. However, the more expensive or better makes usually produce the best sound, but try different option because it might save you a few pounds.

I've been playing the drums for about 2 years, as I began in year 7 at the start of my new secondary school. I'm doing the grades on the snare drum (or side drum) as my drum teacher says it's better to start on the snare drum and then move up to Drum Kit grades as they are slightly harder. I've passed grade 2 on the snare with 'Honours'.

I've played in various concerts & performances that the school holds every year, including a Christmas concert, and 2 Spring concerts. I also play with the school's Jazz Band and have played the drums to pieces such as La Bamba, The Entertainer, Chariots of Fire and all the Christmas Carols, such as Deck the Halls, White Christmas, Little Donkey (with our schools Steel Band) & many more. Along with others like James Bond and the Star Wars theme tune, which aren't so jazzy!
