Mainline Steam

There once was a time in 1970's when the last years of mainline steam were a recent memory and special trains were prohibited, except for one engine Flying Scotsman. Now this has changed and i'm sure you've seen a steam train passing by that you didn't even know about!

I have devised a simple schedule for my home town Basingstoke which features all the Steam train excursions coming through This Year.

By the time i'm 30, I would like to see more steam trains on the mainline running regular services like the steam era Britain once knew so that some people can get a chance to see a train in action speeding along at 75mph! - If this were to happen though, there would need to be a lot of people involved like the stewards, kitchen staff and the Driver & Fireman who all make the trips possible, as well as that there also the people you don't see on the journey, such as the people who organise and plan the trips.

There is a regular steam train service in action in Britain called the 'Cathedrals Express.' This particular service runs from London every Wednesday to one of eight cathedral cities;

+ the new destinations added to the 2003 programme.

The locomotive that takes the trips is 35005 'Canadian Pacific' 1 of 30 Merchant Navy classes designed by O S Bullied in the 1940's. (Only 11 are in existance now.)
