Model Railways

More Pictures of my Hornby '00'
Gauge Railway
My Model Railway is an 'OO' gauge and the trains and track are made by Hornby Railways. There is no particular period in which it is set, but most of the locos I have are late BR's. The railway is aranged so that there is a steam section (above) and a modern section that flys over it.
There are three steam tracks (above), one of them is the freight/local passenger line with a sidings to store trucks & Locos. Unfortunately, due to expansion, I have to store over half of my locos on my bench rather than in my sidings. (When i designed the railway over 5 years ago I only had 5 engines! One for each siding.) The other two steam tracks have LNER coaches and they run as the 'Flying Scotsman,' (from the Flying Scotsman set) and a fleet of Pullman coaches which have head boards saying 'Kentish Belle,' (from the Kentish Belle limited 2000 set). I use these coaches on the two outer ovals to create two steam 'express' lines.
On the other side of the room is my modern image layout with colour light signals and banked curves. These allow me to run all my fastest trains at full speed without them toppeling over the outer edge. The two lines run parallel to each other and on them I run Intercity 225's and GNER (125). These lines flyover the steam section and the two layouts are connected as one. (Below, right hand side)

I'm fortunate because when my grandparents moved into their house the loft had two layout benches fitted at waist hight, each built professionally but never used. According to my grandad this was because it got far too hot in the summer, but far too cold in the winter. So the boy who played there decided to pack everything up and build a new layout in a play room in the house.
The locos I buy are Hornby (with the odd exception of Bachman). I use Hornby because they are reliable and good quality. Ever since Hornby has manufactured its models China its detail has stepped up a notch. Which is great for people like me who are total perfectionist! The only down side is that they are much more fragile! The locos I collect are steam and I only have 1 diesel and two electrics GNER 125 & Intercity 225. The steam locos I usually collect are ones i've seen in real life or locos of the same class, for instance Evening Star, Flying Scotsman, Mallard, Canadian Pacific etc.
