My Page

Welcome to Steamland.com! I hope you will enjoy looking at the web site which is about steam trains and some of my other interests.

I've taught myself how to use the web and now, after regular use I know a lot about it, but when my dad shown me how to make a web site - I rose to the challenge...and here's the result! After playing about Front Page Express, it seems a quite easy (except for the odd crashing of the computer!)

I like to challenge myself and try different things and I supose making web sites is one of them - But my real interests are Steam Locomotives, drums, rockets and model railways. Steam has always interested me since I can remember and still does. I'm quite lucky because I live in Oakley (nr Basingstoke) which has a flyover, where the mainline from London Waterloo/Victoria separates, going off to Exeter via Salisbury and the other to Southampton. I'm also half an hour drive away from the Mid Hants Railway (better known as the Watercress Line) and my friend and i can spend a day on it for just £2.00 for a day rover ticket.

The watercress line has a host of my favourite locos on: Oliver Bullied's Merchant Navy & West Country & Battle of Britain Classes including 34105 'Swanage', 34016 'Bodmin', 34073 '249 Squadron', 35018 'Brittish India Line', and the greatest...35005 Canadian Pacific (My personal favourite!) i'd love to drive one, they're amazing!!!. The railway was designed by L & S W R as an alternative route for heavy locos or express trains going from London to Winchester, which is why the railway is a home to some of BR's larger locos. The railway used to transport watercress from the chalk streams outside of Alresford (hence the name 'Watercress Line') up to London, as it was the quickest way of getting fresh goods up to London for the market.

For more info visit www.watercressline.co.uk/. The site has some good pictures of steam locos and explanations on how a steam loco works. I have to say, I have gained half my railway knowledge from there. Its a must go site!
